The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has advised the 27 cleaning contractors it engaged to improve their performances so as to boost their service delivery.
Mr Murktar Ibrahim, the Head of the Information and Outreach Unit of AEPB, gave the advice on Wednesday, while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“Henceforth, the contractors must discharge their services in such an efficient and professional manner that will promote environmental health in the city.
“For instance, as to the trimming of flowers; whatever style they chose to employ in the pruning — whether triangular, ball or square — must be done in a way that will make the city to look beautiful and attractive.
“The contractors must ensure that they reciprocate the administration’s goodwill by scaling up their performances,’’ he said.
Ibrahim gave an assurance that the board would continue to ensure prompt payment of the cleaning contractors’ fees.
He pledged that the board would strive to give FCT residents a clean, dirt-free city that could be comparable with other modern cities across the world.
He, however, urged the residents to embrace the culture of keeping their surroundings clean so as to ensure healthy living for the populace.
“It is necessary for every resident to join the board in keeping our environment clean.
“The evolution of such attitude will help us receive fresh air, reduce pollution and promote environmental health in the society.
“An unclean environment engenders bad conditions in the society and these could provoke outbreak of diseases,’’ he said.
