A US-based professor, Dr. Farooq Kperogi, says Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has turned from an ally to the “deadliest foe” of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The Professor of Emerging Media and Journalism at the Kennesaw State University, Georgia said this in a Facebook post on Sunday.
The minister has been criticised in some quarters for his handling of the seven-month strike embarked upon by the union.
In a Monday statement, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said he did not deserve to be included in the national honours list recently unveiled by the Federal Government.
“It constitutes an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerian students both home and in the diaspora that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, under whose nose university students have been home for close to eight months is to be awarded the National Honours of Commander of the Order of Niger,” the student body said.
Recall that Adamu had urged students to sue ASUU and demand compensation for the prolonged strike, instead of blaming the Federal Government.
Speaking on Adamu’s relationship with ASUU, Kperogi said, “Adamu Adamu, an erstwhile ASUU ally, is turning out to be deadliest foe ASUU has ever had.
“With help from Ngige, he’s dealing the union one crushing blow after another.
“It would be a miracle if the union survives this. Lesson: the fact that someone is your friend today doesn’t mean they can’t be a murderous foe tomorrow.”
