Actress Genoveva Umoh recently revealed surprising details about her career trajectory in a candid interview on the popular podcast series, Is This Seat Taken, hosted by Chinasa Anukam. Contrary to the assumption that acting was always her intended path, Umoh initially pursued law before eventually finding her calling in the world of acting following a significant setback.
During the podcast episode, Umoh shared her personal journey, shedding light on her decision to study law. She explained, “Studying law was a deliberate choice I made. However, as a first-generation immigrant, I was acutely aware of the tremendous sacrifices my parents had made to secure my education in the UK. I didn’t want to treat my studies as a mere hobby. I mistakenly considered acting as just a hobby at the time.“
Umoh went on to express her perspective on acting as a hobby, with the belief that she would pursue it seriously once she completed her law degree. “While I was in university, I saw acting as something I would come back to after graduation. I thought I would establish a career in law first. However, everything changed when I faced failure during my first year of law school. It was a pivotal moment that made me reassess my true desires rather than succumbing to external pressures,” she shared.
The actress’s failure in her initial pursuit of law was a turning point that led her to seriously consider her passion for acting. This setback prompted her to reflect on her genuine aspirations and reevaluate her career path. Umoh remarked, “Failing my first year of law was a wake-up call. It made me realize that I needed to prioritize my true passions rather than pursuing what I felt obligated to do.“
