President Bola Tinubu on Sunday directed a comprehensive investigations into financial irregularities involving the transfer of N585.189 million by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that appropriate actions will follow the investigation.
“The matter is under investigation. Appropriate Action will be taken thereafter,” Onanuga told Daily Trust.
The funds, intended for vulnerable individuals in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, were allegedly redirected into a private account.
The revelation sparked widespread outrage, prompting demands for Edu’s dismissal and legal prosecution.
A leaked document purportedly signed by Edu directed the disbursement of the N585.189 million into the private account of Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu, as per instructions forwarded to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
Despite the uproar, Edu, via her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, defended the payment, asserting that the disbursement followed due process.
