Apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo says the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) are behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to pursue a political solution to the Nnamdi Kanu situation.
This, the group said, was to destabilise the South-East geopolitical zone
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze noted that it was vindicated in a prediction in its New Year message that Buhari would not release Kanu.
This, it said, was because of evidence of infighting, misguided assertions, and utterances of certain southeastern leaders and IPOB itself.
The sociocultural group recalled that it has been warning that the approach, assertions and infighting in the camp of IPOB and amongst Igbo leaders would derail efforts to secure Kanu’s release through diplomatic efforts.

According to the group, some stakeholders sent to negotiate Kanu’s release abandoned the mission to pursue personal gains.
The group further said some Igbo political leaders and other people around Kanu were secretly benefiting from the president’s nonchalant posture of not applying the political solution to effect the IPOB leader’s release.
Ohanaeze equally claimed that “Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF and Northern Elders Forum, NEF, are behind President Buhari’s refusal to grant Nnamdi Kanu a political solution with evil intent to disorganize and set the South-East ablaze ahead of the 2023 Presidency.
“Nnamdi Kanu’s trials will bring the untold tragedy of tensions and disastrous violence to the Southeast.”
