The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari disclosed that the Abule Ado fire reignited Monday morning.
Kyari disclosed on Sunday that the pipeline fire was put off at 11:30 am and a maintenance team moved in and repaired the damaged pipe segment.
He explained in a Monday tweet that the fire was reignited at the pipeline at 5:10 a.m. by residual fires in the neighbourhood.
However, Kyari disclosed that a combined team of NNPC, Nigerian Navy, Lagos State, and Federal Fire Services have effectively controlled the pipeline fire.
The GMD added that the team took steps to forestall any reignition.
This is just as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat visited the scene of the incident on Monday.
Sanwo-Olu set up a N2 billion relief fund for the Abule-Ado victims and set up a committee headed by Hamzat, with a two-week deadline to submit its report.
Kyari said that the Managing Director of the Nigerian Pipelines and Storage Company Limited (NPSC), an NNPC subsidiary, was onsite with the governor for reassessment.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in an update on Monday morning, disclosed that efforts were ongoing to evacuate casualties.
While condoling with affected families, the LASEMA DG said that the incident has displaced many families as residents fled their homes to avoid being caught in the incident.
Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that the 17 bodies have so far been recovered from the rubble while 25 injured people are being treated for injuries at the site.
