Some Nigerian Twitter users have expressed joy at the redeployment of pioneer Head of Police Complaints Unit, ACP Yomi Shogunle from the unit.
Shogunle was reportedly redeployed to Nkalagu in Ebonyi State.
The Herald gathered that Shogunle attracted the irk of many Nigerian Twitter users after he tweeted in support of last week’s raid of some nightclubs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and arrest of some supposed sex workers by a Joint Task Force comprising the police.
Some of the arrested women later said they were abused by policemen attached to the task force.
He tweeted:
Those making noise on the clampdown on prostitutes in #Abuja;
•Prostitution is a crime under the law
•P is a sin under the 2 main religions of FCT residents
•Medicine says P is spreading HIV & STD
•P is lifeline of violent criminals
•P don’t pay tax
•🇳🇬 culture frowns at P.

But some commentators accused him of being insensitive to the plight of women that were allegedly abused in the infamous raid.
A writer, Elnathan John reacted:
To call Yomi Shogunle filth is to disrespect filth. And scum like him wearing a uniform and representing the Nigerian Police (in whatever capacity) is a metaphor for what Nigeria is today. A symbol of our collective anyhowness and the institutionalisation of idiocy.

Many of the commentators took to Twitter to rejoice at his redeployment.

That it took the Nigerian Police this long to redeploy Yomi Shogunle from the sensitive position he occupied despite his unabashed disrespect for members of the public whose interests he was meant to protect, is indicative of the depth of the rot in the force.

I feel for the people of Ebonyi state tho…
No State deserves to accommodate him😪

We might all rejoice at yomi Shogunle's transfer to Nkalagu(and it's a small victory to be celebrated especially if it'll make him shut up) but the truth is public officers need to know that they can loose their jobs when they make statements like that. He should have been fired

Yomi shogunle should carry all the block he has blocked people on twitter to build a 2bedroom flat in Nkalagu and a road block if the community allows it #EndImpunity #ReformPoliceNG #ENDSars
