A Nollywood actor, Francis Duru on Tuesday commended the Federal Government for completing the 187 kilometre Abuja-Kaduna rail line project.
Duru also called on President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration to execute more of such projects to make life better for Nigerians.
The Nollywood actor spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“The coming to life of the Abuja-Kaduna rail line goes a long way to state the obvious fact that government is all about continuity; the present government did well.
“That railway station did not just wake up to become what it is overnight; it is a pointer to the fact that the previous government did a whole lot.
“There is a prayer in our national anthem that we are ignoring and that is; the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vein,’’ Duru said.
The veteran Nollywood actor called also called on Nigerians to do away with political divide and embrace holistic culture of national development.
According to him, If we dwell on the negative things, we will never succeed.
“ There is a wrong culture of politics in this country; I heard on radio that a governor of a state said God will punish somebody; I don’t want to mention names.
“A governor said that and there are people watching him; and we want change tomorrow and we want our children’s children who are listening to grow well.
“These are some of the things that are taking us backward; so many other things that the past government did that we are not talking about or have ignored,’’ he queried.
Duru emphasised that Nigerians should start looking at the country beyond their personal political inclination or philosophy.
He explained that the day Nigerians begin to own the nation; that day the country would start growing as a nation.
“The state of the nation now is not all about politics, we have come to the point where we need to look for solutions beyond political divide.
“let us keep politics aside and go straight to people who can get solutions; after all, the solution to our problems lies within us not outside us.
“It will be better if some of our political leaders can keep politics aside and concentrate on nation building, instead of on the persons that we don’t like their faces,’’ he said.
The Nollywood actor also called for prayers for people in authority, regardless of our political affiliation or personal preferences.
According to him, Nigeria does not belong to any political party, it belongs to the people that constitute the country; if those in authority fail, it will get back to us.
