Alhaji Abdullahi Candido, Chairman, Abuja Area Municipal Council (AMAC), said the council established a microfinance bank to assist low income earners access loans to grow their businesses.

Candido disclosed this while receiving the state executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the microfinance bank had been dully certified by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and already had N176 million shareholder’s deposit to lend to people at the grassroots level who had no access to regular bank loans.

Candido also disclosed that AMAC would soon unveil a community radio to be called ‘AMAC grassroots community radio,’ which was 90 per cent completed.

He said his administration had embarked on massive infrastructure development projects in the council such as rural electrification, healthcare and provision of water.

He said the others are: free distribution of fertiliser, employment generation, education and others.

He called on members of the party to embrace the politics of civility and shun thuggery and hooliganism.

“Let us approach politicking in a civilised manner, don’t assassinate people’s character for political gains,” he said.

The AMAC chairman said he had been devoting his security votes to employment, empowerment and other areas that could help the people of the area.

Earlier, Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) APC Chairman, said it was imperative for the political party to elect into office one of their own who believed in the ideal of the party.

According to him, “we are lucky to have our own elected into office from the six area councils, our chairmen in Abuja are competing with some state governors in Nigeria.

“We have seen projects executed by our chairmen that will be a challenge to some of our governors.”

He said Candido’s second term ticket was already sealed as a result of his performance, adding that the party would give him the ticket to enable him complete what he started.

Usman said the era of thuggery in politics in the FCT was over as the residents had embraced the politics of ideas rather than thuggery.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 27 ward chairmen of APC were inaugurated by the state executive.

NAN also reports that a few projects of the Candido administration were visited by the state APC executive to confirm what they were told by the chairman.

Part of the projects visited include: Jabi Market, AMAC City Mall among others.

Usman, however, expressed satisfaction with some of the projects, saying that the era of the party nothing inspecting projects executed by the party’s elected officers was over. (NAN)
