President Idriss Deby of Chad called on Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau to surrender or face the same fate that had befallen his compatriots.
Derby while speaking at a news conference in N’djamena on Wednesday said “Abubakar Shekau must surrender. We know where he is. If he doesn’t give himself up he will suffer the same fate as his compatriots.
“He (Shekau) was in Dikwa two days ago. He managed to get away but we know where he is. It’s in his interests to surrender.”
Chadian troops had liberated Dikwa from Boko Haram earlier this week, the village which is about 85 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Meanwhile the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has said that there are about 66,000 Nigerian refugees in Cameroon.
While speaking to journalists at a press briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, the UNHCR’s spokesman, Adrian Edwards, said Cameroonian authorities had observed a steady flow of refugees streaming in through the extremely volatile border regions of Makaria, Logone Birni and Fotokol, south of Lake Chad.
Edwards added that UNHCR was already planning daily transfers of 2,000 refugees to Minawao, where there is an established refugee camp currently hosting more than 32,600 Refugees already.
Edwards also noted that UNHCR is looking for a second camp location that will provide adequate levels of potable water for a rapidly growing refugee population in the Far North region.
