Abia State To Compel Citizens to Place Genotype On Identity Cards

2 Min Read

The Abia house of assembly announced the passing of a bill which seeks to reduce the birth of Sickle cell children within the state.

The bill will make it compulsory for Abia citizens to insert their blood group and genotype on their Identity cards.

According to Abia Breaking News, the sponsor of the bill, Dr Blessing Nwagba said the law will help families to avert the troubles they go through by checkmating incompatible partners before they get married.

Dr. Nwagba, said that the law will be implemented by the state ministry of health along with other ministries as well as the police.

The Abia State House of Assembly also passed into law a bill to control nomadic cattle rearing and prohibition of grazing routes in the state.

This bill was sponsored by Rt. Honorable Martins Azubuike, a member of the house representing Isiala Ngwa North state constituency.

The Speaker of the house, Rt. Honorable Chikwendu Kalu said the anti grazing law is necessary to counter the menace of the herdsmen who have been a major threat to lives, property and peace in the land.

The speaker also stated that the law would mean that every cattle entering into state will have to be registered at the entry point to the state and must be conveyed in a vehicle, failure of which would attract seizure of the cattle and severe sanctions.
