Abia Governor Otti to Reconsider Disengaged South-East Civil Servants

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has directed the State’s Head of Service to review the cases of 154 civil servants from Anambra and other South-East states who were disengaged in 2011 under the “Non-Indigene” policy. This move brings hope to those affected, who have been seeking recall.

The “Non-Indigene” policy, implemented by the previous administration, led to the disengagement of nearly 3,000 non-indigenes from the state’s civil service. Governor Otti has described this policy as discriminatory and illegal.

Governor Otti has assured that those still under service age will be re-engaged after the review, while those above the age will receive compensation. The governor noted that most of the disengaged workers were teachers, and the state is currently facing a shortage of teachers.

When asked about his future political plans, Governor Otti expressed his intention to retire from active politics after his second term, paving the way for younger generations to serve.
