Abductors Demand Ten Million Naira for Ex LG Chairman

The abductors of Mr. Dele Fagoriola the former chairman of Akure North Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State, have demanded a ransom of N10 million for his release.

This demand was made on Sunday, after the former chairman was abducted in his farm at Iju along the Akure-Ikere Ekiti Road on Saturday.

A family source confirmed that they had received a call from the abductors requesting for the said ransom before the Local government chairman would be released.

The Ondo state command of the Nigeria Police however informed the public through its Public Relations Officer Mr. Femi Joseph that progress was being made by the police to secure the release of the abducted politician.  He however refused to disclose police findings because of the delicate nature of the crime.

The police further appealed to every law-abiding resident of the state not to panic, saying the command was committed to ensuring adequate security of their lives and property.

Mr. Fagoriola’s abduction was reported by Mr. Busuyi his elder brother who said the former local government chairman was on his farm to supervise his labourers when he was abducted and taken away by the kidnappers.

He further reported that the abductors were seven in number and wore masks while the abduction lasted.

It was also reported earlier in the week that Senator Dino Melaye was abducted on his way to Kogi to answer charges brought against him by police in Kogi State. Details of the abduction were however not clear as Mr. Dino was said to have escaped from his abductors.

Two kidnappers were also sentenced to death by a court in Benue for abducting and killing a catholic priest after collecting a ransom of N1.5 million.

Several states have initiated the death penalty for convicted kidnappers including Benue State.
