Delegates at the ongoing Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected a constitutional amendment that would have seen one of the two posts of Deputy National Charman of the party reserved for a female member.
Of the delegates totalling 2124 , a majority 1194 voted against the proposal.
A total of 23 posts are available to be filled at the Elective National Convention of the party currently ongoing at the Eagle’s Square, Abuja.
Meanwhile, some sections of the party’s constitution were amended, including a section to reduce the minimum period of membership by returnees and new members before they can stand for election on the party’s platform.
This followed a motion by Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson proposing an amendment to some sections of the party’s constitution to reflect new realities. One of the sections affected was the preamble.
Some of the affected clauses include Section 8 and 50 to ease the process of rejoining the party by former members, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
Sections 29, 30, 31, 35 and 45 were amended to provide for two deputy national chairmen and make the six national vice chairmen of the party members of its National Working Committee
