The new Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, Hayatu Usman, has called on the Disc Jockeys Association of Nigeria (DJAN) not to flout the 12-midnight curfew subsisting in the state.
Usman also urged the association to preach peace and obedience to law and order.
The CP made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit paid him by a delegation of the leadership of DJAN, led by the Deputy National President of the association, Thomas Abba (DJ Tomee Tee).
Commending the delegation for the visit, Usman appreciated the role of the DJs in making people happy, relax and douse tension in society.
Usman said, “There is an order from the Chief Security Officer -the governor of the state…on the restriction of movement (though not a curfew) beyond 12 midnight. So, whatever you do, we don’t want it to be till dawn. If you do so, it’ll be in violation of the law, which has been duly promulgated by the governor.”
He added that the law was made in good faith and had no intention to cause discomfort or make people uncomfortable to anyone but in the interest of peace.
“Preach peace; preach obedience to law and order so that everybody can be happy. Thank you for coming and identifying with us, it shows we are together. My doors are always open,” he added.
While bringing the goodwill message from the DJAN national office, Abba thanked the CP for his audience and congratulated him on the attainment of his prestigious office.
“As social entrepreneurs, there is a need for us to have a cordial relationship with the police, support you, and also inform you of some of our activities as security is now every man’s business,” DJ Abba added.
The delegation on behalf of the DJAN expressed their commitment to ensuring a sustainable working relationship with the police for the peace and security of Gombe State.
