Nigerian singer and former member of the defunct music group Plantashun Boiz, Blackface, recently shared his perspective on the current music scene, particularly singling out the artist Rema and expressing his reluctance to allow his daughter to date someone like him.
In a podcast interview on the Honest Bunch podcast, Blackface criticized the lyrics and messages in some contemporary songs, using Rema’s song “Charm” as an example. He pointed to lyrics where Rema sang lines like “I get money pass your papa” and “Fine girl come wettin dey worry you?” as problematic, suggesting that they lack morals and do not represent Nigeria positively.
Blackface expressed concern about the type of man his daughter might bring home, saying he couldn’t imagine his daughter dating someone who sang such lyrics. He mentioned that these lyrics reflect what’s in the heart of the artist and that men like Rema have no morals.
