A mother of two in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital met her untimely death on recently when a police orderly attached to a member of the House of Representatives, Segun Williams, shot her and gravely injured another young man.
The woman identified as Taiwo was said to be in her kiosk at Erunbe community in Ago – Oko in the afternoon on Wednesday where she sells petty items when the bullets from Williams’s orderly’s gun snuffed life out of her.
Her daughter, Halimat, 16 who wept profusely, said she was in the shop with her mother when the unfortunate incident occurred.
She explained that everything happened so fast that by the time she turned in her mother’s direction after the shot, she was lying on the floor in front of the shop in her pool of blood.
The other victim of the gunshot, a young man, whose face was caught by bullets, is said to have been taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro, where doctors are battling to save his life.
It was learnt that the National Assembly member on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress(APC), representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, was at the place for his re- election campaign when the incident happened.
A witness said in a bid to clear the way for the lawmaker, the orderly shot twice from the open roof of a jeep carrying Williams, with the bullets hitting the dead woman and the young man.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who admitted knowledge of the incident said preliminary report show that it was one of the hoodlums that fired the shot.
