Manchester City joined other teams in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday night after scoring a 2nd half brace against As Roma at Stadio Olimpico.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side claimed their first win in Italy after playing goalless in the first half.
Samir Nasri fired home from 25 yards putting City in the lead and Pablo Zabaleta’s close range shot confirmed their qualification alongside Bayern defeating CSKA Moscow 3-0.
Pellegring spoke after the match; he addressed the issue of his team depending on a set of players.
“I said that I do not want to complain about the players that are not in our team,” said the manager.
“It is difficult to play without Kompany, Silva, Aguero and Toure and I think that this team deserve a little bit more credit
than the press always give us, because even without Sergio the team qualified and we played well in Europe, the same
way we have in the Premier League.”
The next phase of the Champions League kicks off next year and Pellegrini wants his team to focus on the Premier League.
“We are playing in two different competitions, and now we are finished in the Champions League, we have qualified and we start thinking about this in February,” said Pellegrini.
“Now we must think about the Premier League, we must try and forget about how many points Chelsea are ahead of us, we are just three points behind them, we must play four games in December and then we will start to think about this competition again.”
