Ayona Trimnell, Head Corporate Communications

Diamond Bank Plc, a leading retail bank in Nigeria, has thrown his weight beyond the Nigerian Music Video Awards which is coming up this week. This was revealed by Ayona Trimnell, Head, Corporate Communications, Diamond Bank Plc.

She said Diamond Bank is interested in the development of the creative industry in the country. The bank is supporting this noble effort because it is a source of livelihood for many young people.

“Diamond Bank appreciates the efforts of young people who have used their creative abilities to make the Nigerian music industry glowing in recent years. These are areas of human endeavor that has been exported to other areas of the world. Nigerian musical videos are now internationally recognized because of these attempts,” she added.

Speaking on the criteria for selection this year, Mr. Cally Ikpe,  CEO,Callivision Media, said that; “the NMVA 2014 has been devoted to deepening the consciousness and support for a violence free environment; just as we reckon obscenity, denigration of women and lewdness are also acts of violence as is the case with many music videos today. We indeed hope to use this platform to discourage these tendencies”.

The categories for the prizes include Best producer, Video of the Year, Indigenous Concept, Best Use of Visual Effect, best Raggae dancehall, Video by Minors, Best R ‘N’ B Videos. Others are Best Pop Extra Video, Best Use of Dance In a Music Video, Best Soft Rock / Alternative Video, Best Use Of Costumes, Best Mainstream Hip Hop Video and others to make a total of 23 awards.

The bank’s role in the creative industry also includes the support given to the Vision of The Child, an arm of the Lagos Black Heritage Festival where children are creatively engaged through the art of writing and drawing.

The Nigeria Music Video Awards; NMVA is in its 8 consecutive season as Nigeria’s first ever music video awards to establish benchmarks by rewarding outstanding creators of music videos. The awards ceremony is primarily aimed at projecting the Nigerian people, culture, way of life and tourism potentials in a more positive light through our music videos as very viable tools.
