Edo Delegates Visit Lagos to Understudy Implementation of Procurement Law

2 Min Read

The Lagos State Government has said that the Procurement law in the state has stopped the trend of abandoning projects in the state.

The General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Akin Onimole, made this known during the visit of a delegation from Edo State, who was in the state to understudy the process of public procurement in Lagos State.

Onimole said “When you plan your work properly, initially, it might seem like a waste of time. But at the end of the day, when you do things properly from the onset, you’ll discover that the project will run seamlessly.

“But if you rush and do what should take up to two months to award in two weeks, 50 per cent of those projects will get stalled along the way; these are things we have seen over the years. You can award any contract almost immediately, but what happens one or two years down the line is what matters. People need to be patient. Yes, initially, it might seem like things are slow, but the benefit down the line is worth it.”

The Procurement was passed in 2012 and according to Onimole, since April 2014, the agency has achieved 100 per cent implementation.

Edo State signed the procurement law earlier this year hence the reason for the visit of the delegation to understudy the process.
