Raheem Sterling believes the return of Daniel Sturridge will help revive Liverpool’s season.
The Red’s poor run continued with Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to high-flying Chelsea at Anfield and they now find themselves in the bottom half of the table.
Sturridge has sat out Liverpool’s past 14 games due to thigh and calf injuries but the striker is expected to be fit for their trip to Crystal Palace after the international break.
“It will be a massive boost to have Daniel back playing,” Sterling told the Liverpool Echo.
“We have missed him and the more quality players you have fit and available the better.
“He gives us that threat in the box and he scores goals. We’re all really looking forward to having him back in the team.
“After a defeat you usually want the next game to come along fast but I think having this break now can help us.
“We need to get going after the international break and start winning games to turn this around.
“Losing hurts, especially losing a big game at home. Every team goes through sticky patches but I’m sure we’ll start climbing the table soon.”
Liverpool had a good start when Emre Can’s deflected shot gave them the lead but Chelsea fought back and equalised through Gary Cahill. Diego Costa got the winner as the Reds suffered a third successive defeat.
Sterling admits Brendan Rodgers’ side, who find themselves down in 11th place but only four points adrift of fourth placed West Ham, were left cursing referee Anthony Taylor’s failure to award a spot-kick when Cahill handled in the box late on.
“I’ve seen it again and I thought we were really unlucky not to get a penalty,” Sterling added.
