According to the mirror, Emmanuel Adebayor has enraged his teammates with a breach of dressing-room etiquette and now want Mauricio Pochettino to axe the player from the starting eleven in favour if Harry Kane.
Sources have revealed that Adebayor was berated by fellow players when he invited opposing players into the Tottenham dressing-room directly after the 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle a fortnight ago.
Just minutes after the final whistle, Adebayor is said to have been happily chatting to two of the Toon’s French-speaking players in a room next to the dressing room in their native tongue as the Spurs players tried to come to terms with their defeat against Newcastle.
Spurs were booed off after blowing a lead and many players were fuming at Adebayor for being insensitive.
Pochettino was aware of the anger among his squad but still started Adebayor in last week’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa- where he was criticised for his poor work rate.
England under-21 star Kane transformed the game and scored the winner after replacing Adebayor in the 58th minute.
The Spurs is believed to be feeling let down by Adebayor after putting faith in him as his first-choice striker since taking over from Tim Sherwood.
Spurs had tried to off-load the player in the summer and might be able to ship him out on loan in January if they can secure the services of a quality forward.
Adebayor has scored only two goals this season and his reputation for excelling while on loan at clubs only to put his foot off the gas when he has a permanent deal has not gone away.
Adebayor, whose Tottenham deal expires next summer, did not travel to Greece for Thursday’s Europa League match against Asteras Tripolis – the sixth successive foreign trip he has missed.
