High flying Southampton thrashed Sunderland 8-0 in the Premier League on Saturday as unbeaten leasers Chelsea stay five points clear at the top with a 2-1 win away to Crystal Palace.
Sergio Aguero scored all of City’s goals in a 4-1 defeat of 10-man Tottenham Hotspur as the champions remained second while Arsenal needed a stoppage time equaliser to seal a 2-2 draw with Hull.
Everton climbed up the table with a 3-0 win at home to Aston Villa but strugglers Burnley were left searching for their first league win of the season after a 3-1 loss at home to the Hammers.
At St Mary’s, Southampton were 3-0 up at halftime, the goal rush started in the 12th minute when Sunderland’s Santiago Vergini put through his own net when he volleyed in an attempted clearance.
Graziano Pelle made it 2-0 six minutes later and there was more misery for the over 2000 visiting Sunderland fans to come when Jack Cork turned in from close range.
The goals kept coming in the second half, Liam Bridcutt diverting Pelle’s shot into his own net for a second own goal of the match before Pelle, Dusan Tadic, Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane piled on the agony for Sunderland.
At Selhurst Park, Oscar scored a brilliant freefick that gave Chelsea a sixth minute lead.
Five minutes before the break, Chelsea defender Cesar Azpillicueta was shown a red card for diving a two footed tackle on Mile Jedinak. Palace were reduced to ten men when Damien Delaney committed a second bookable offence by hauling back Loic Remy.
Chelsea increased their lead in the 51st minute when Fabregas played a one-two with Eden Harzaed and Oscar before placing the ball past Julian Speroni at the near post.
Palace pulled a goal back in the last minute of normal time through Fraizer Campbell.
Aguero played an intricate role in the demolition of Spurs, the Argentina forward opened scoring in the 13th minute and then struck from the penalty box seven minutes later after Christian Eriksen’s 15-minute equaliser.
Aguero missed a chance to seal a hat-trick before half-time when his penalty was saved by Hugo Illoris.
A third penalty was awarded in the 62nd minute when Martin Demichelis tripped Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado, with replays indicating that the offence was actually committed outside the box.
However, Soldado failed to convert as his kick was saved by Joe Hart.
A fourth penalty was awarded when Federico Fazio pulled back Aguero, a foul that also earned the defender a red card on his Premier League debut.
Aguero, who is now City’s leading scorer in the Premier League era, stroked home the penalty and sealed a win for the champions in the 75th minute.
Alexis Sanchez powerful shot put Arsenal ahead in the 13th minute at the Emirates before Mohamed Diame levelled for Hull minutes later.
Hull went ahead early in the second half when Abel Hernandez headed home a beautiful cross from Tom Huddlestone and it seemed the Tigers would hold on for a victory until Danny Welbeck scored in injury time.
West Ham gave Sam Allardyce the perfect gift before his birthday on Sunday with a victory at Burnley that took them to the top four.
Diafra Sakho scored his sixth goal in six games which gave West Ham the leading the 49th minute and Enner Valencia made it 2-0 five minutes later.
George Boyd pulled one back in the 60th minute before Hammers substitute Carlton Cole restored West Ham’s two goal lead.
Everton saw off Villa at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Captain Phil Jagielka, Romeu Lukaku and Seamus Coleman.
Newcastle saw kick-off in their match against Leicester delayed by an hour after repairs had to be made to one of the giant television screens at St James’ Park after it had been dislodged by strong winds. They sealed a 1-0 win thanks to a lovely solo goal from former Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan.
