Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has made a surprising revelation about her family’s history. In an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Damasus disclosed that her family’s original surname was Ojukwu, but it was changed during the Nigerian civil war.
According to Damasus, her grandfather’s name was Ojukwu, but it was assumed to be related to the late Biafran war general, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. To avoid being attacked, her family changed their surname to Damasus.
“I was born into Damasus, and when I asked why, that was the reason they gave me,” Damasus explained. “My original surname was Ojukwu, but that changed during the Biafran war when my people were attacked in Asaba because they thought it was the same Ojukwu.”
