Renowned comedian and filmmaker, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has expressed disappointment in Nigerian filmmakers for their inability to effectively showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage in movies.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Basketmouth criticized the quality of most epic movies produced in the country, alleging that they fail to adequately promote Nigerian culture and traditions.
“I believe that we still have the opportunity to get it right,” he said. “But we had a great opportunity to showcase our culture, and most of the filmmakers blew it. They just ruined that great chance because I see epic movies and they look like stage plays. When I was watching most of the epic movies, I was disappointed.”
The filmmaker added that the industry needs to do better, although he acknowledged that a few movies have managed to impress him.
“You guys blew up a great opportunity, but let’s hope we still have another chance to strike at it,” he said. “I’m sorry, only very few movies have impressed me so far. I believe that we can do more.”
