Tiwa Savage: ‘I Didn’t Break Up With TeeBillz’ – Nigerian Songstress Speaks on Divorce

2 Min Read

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shed light on her divorce from ex-husband Tunji Balogun, popularly known as TeeBillz, revealing she wasn’t the one who ended the marriage.

In a recent interview on The Receipts Podcast, Tiwa accused TeeBillz of being responsible for the separation. She disclosed that the announcement of their divorce in 2018, which TeeBillz made public on social media, came at a difficult time when she was dealing with postpartum struggles after the birth of their son.

She said, “The way our situation happened, he announced it online. I did not break up with him, but I was the one being attacked. My baby was just a few months old at that time. My body wasn’t the same because I was dealing with postpartum and depression. Only a few people came to see me. Everyone went to him.”

Tiwa also shared how she faced public backlash after an interview where she attempted to share her side of the story. She recounted being criticized for speaking out, with people accusing her of failing in her marital duties.

“It was very heartbreaking how the public blamed me. Ever since then, I was like, ‘I won’t ever talk about the situation.’ It was an eye-opener for me. It made me depressed and angry for so long,” she said.

Reflecting on the experience, Tiwa revealed how it shaped her transformation into the “African Bad Girl” persona. “I started getting tattoos and wearing bikinis and short skirts,” she noted.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2013, had their marital issues play out in the public eye, culminating in their separation. TeeBillz’s initial announcement drew widespread attention and ignited conversations about their private lives.

Tiwa Savage’s revelations provide further insight into the emotional turmoil she endured during and after the collapse of her marriage.
