The former President of the Yoruba community in Benue State, Isaac Akinkunmi, has urged Nigerians to remain patient with the economic reforms introduced by the current administration, assuring that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
Akinkunmi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Tito Group of Companies, made the appeal on Saturday night during a ceremony to light up Christmas trees and festive lights at the Tito Gate area of Makurdi, Benue State.
Commending Nigerians for their resilience, Akinkunmi encouraged citizens to adjust their priorities to cope with economic challenges, especially during the Christmas season. He emphasized the need for collective support to reposition the nation’s economy under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
“Tough times do not last, but tough people do,” Akinkunmi said. “What we need at this time is to reset our programmes and priorities. I believe strongly that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
The philanthropist, whose businesses span across Benue State and other parts of Nigeria, described the lighting of Christmas trees as a symbolic celebration of the yuletide season, marking the birth of Jesus Christ. He stated that the season represents love, salvation, and hope for humanity.
The event featured the distribution of food to children and youths, alongside cash gifts to support two indigent residents—Amazing Agwu and Ngozi Abuchi—to start small businesses. Both beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the assistance would help them begin their entrepreneurial journeys.
