The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the deployment of strategic security measures nationwide to ensure a safe and secure environment during the festive season. The measures aim to curb traffic issues, highway robberies, and other crimes associated with the increased mobility and public gatherings during the Yuletide period.
In a statement released on Thursday, the IGP announced the immediate deployment of police personnel to key locations, urban centers, highways, and recreational areas across all states. The initiative will see officers strategically positioned to increase visibility and deter criminal activities, especially highway robberies, which tend to rise during the holiday season.
The IGP’s commitment to public safety has already yielded results, with recent police operations disrupting criminal activities in Lagos and Anambra states. On December 10, police operatives in Lagos arrested four suspected robbers—Akeem Alabi, Adewale Sogbesan, Emmanuel Izeagbe, and Francis Okoko. The suspects, who confessed to being part of a robbery syndicate operating around the Costain area, are currently in custody.
Similarly, in Anambra State, police operatives apprehended a suspected armed robber, Miracle Mwakaloi, on December 6 in Awka. A search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, underscoring the force’s proactive approach to combating crime.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to creating a secure environment for all Nigerians during the Yuletide season and beyond. Enhanced patrols, community engagement, and increased visibility on crime-prone roads are part of the measures being implemented.
The IGP also urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement officers and report suspicious activities promptly. He assured Nigerians of the professionalism and law-abiding nature of the deployed personnel while encouraging vigilance to complement police efforts.
Citizens are encouraged to contact the police or relevant law enforcement agencies for assistance or to report any criminal activity.
