Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commenced the construction of the 4.7-kilometer Utteh Palace Road in Benin City, fulfilling a campaign promise made to residents of the area.
The project, located in the Edo South Senatorial District, was officially flagged off on Monday during a ceremony attended by community leaders and government officials. Governor Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development as part of the “Renewed Hope” agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor emphasized the significance of the road, noting that its completion would connect Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwonde Local Government Areas, thereby enhancing accessibility and stimulating economic activities in the region.
“I visited this area during my campaign three months ago and saw the deplorable state of the road. I assured the community that, once in office, we would fix it. Today, I am here to fulfill that promise,” Okpebholo said.
He added, “This project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. As leaders under his vision, it is our duty to deliver tangible results that uplift our people.”
The construction contract was awarded to Risen Fan, whose representative promised timely delivery of the project without compromising quality.
“We are dedicated to completing this road on schedule and to the highest standards. This project will open doors for investments in sectors such as agriculture, ICT, education, and healthcare,” the contractor said.
The Secretary of the Utteh community, Lucky Asemota, expressed gratitude to the governor, describing the road project as a major relief for residents and businesses.
“We are overjoyed that Governor Okpebholo has kept his word. This road will improve our daily lives and boost local commerce,” Asemota said.
