Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Justifies Lavish Lifestyle Amid UK Deportation Case

3 Min Read

Embattled Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adegboyega, founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation), has defended his luxurious lifestyle amidst an ongoing deportation trial in the United Kingdom.

The UK Immigration Tribunal recently ruled that the 44-year-old pastor be deported, alleging that he overstayed a visitor visa he entered on in 2005 and attempted to remain in the country on human rights grounds.

During the hearing, Adegboyega explained that his wife, Mary Olubukola Alade, a professional earning £100,000 annually at AON, has been financially supporting him. He argued that his opulent lifestyle, characterized by designer clothes and expensive cars, is meant to inspire his predominantly young congregation to pursue legitimate means of success.

“I live with my partner, Mary Olubukola Alade, who earns £100,000 per year. I spend my time working for the church, for which I am unpaid. I am entirely supported by Mary,” Adegboyega said. He added, “I have a first-class law degree from Nigeria but sacrificed my legal career to help those who cannot help themselves.”

Court documents revealed that Adegboyega insisted he never took money from his church and that his personal possessions were funded solely by his wife. He stated that his appearance is critical to his mission, saying, “It is important for me to dress the way I do because young people need to understand that legitimate money-making pathways, like entrepreneurship, exist.”

Reacting to the deportation ruling, Adegboyega dismissed the allegations, describing them as minor setbacks in a city known for challenges against people of color.

“I’m right here at home, no cause for alarm,” he said. “Every Nigerian should be proud of me. Living in the UK, a city known for pulling people down, I have survived all sorts. I succeeded well in this country despite all challenges, and nothing will change.”

The pastor’s case has stirred widespread conversations, with many questioning the intersection of religion and wealth. Adegboyega remains defiant, asserting that his work with SPAC Nation has positively impacted many lives.
