Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared his stance on cannabis, stating he does not consider it a hard drug.
The award-winning artist made this remark during an appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast, where he discussed his foundation’s plans to donate to orphanages and support initiatives to combat drug abuse among youths.
Addressing criticisms from some quarters, Davido acknowledged that people have labeled him a hypocrite for advocating against drug abuse while using cannabis. However, he emphasized his belief that cannabis, often referred to as weed, is not in the category of hard drugs.
“This year, I’m donating to the fight against drug abuse among youths,” he said. “I don’t count weed as a hard drug. Some people are saying I smoke weed, but I don’t count weed as a drug.”
The singer also expressed concern over the growing prevalence of drug addiction, particularly among young people, highlighting the need for greater awareness and support. “A lot of people have been going through a lot recently. Drug addiction is becoming rampant. So I want to donate to that cause to help them quit,” he added.
