Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has highlighted the critical role of connecting with fans beyond just music. In a recent appearance on the Shopping The Sneakers podcast, Savage emphasized that artists need to develop genuine relationships with their audiences to foster a deeper connection that goes beyond the music itself.
Savage pointed out that when artists cultivate strong relationships with their fanbase, it allows fans to engage with all aspects of their lives, from fashion to personal interests. “It’s not just about the music; it’s your fanbase and your brand,” she explained. “You have to think about your fashion. You have to be relatable. A lot of times, artists are just putting out music but aren’t really connecting with the fans.”
Drawing on the success of her fellow Afrobeats stars, Savage mentioned Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as prime examples of artists who have mastered the art of building strong relationships with their fans. “If you look at Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, they have established relationships with their fanbases. Their fans love their lifestyles. Whether they are dropping a song or not, they are always in the conversation.”
