FG Partners USAID to Boost Tech Innovation, Sustainable Development

2 Min Read

The Federal Government has partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to drive technological innovation and sustainable development initiatives in Nigeria. This partnership was solidified during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, met with USAID’s Chief Innovation Officer, Mohammed Abdel-Kader. The collaboration focuses on harnessing technology to address pressing developmental challenges in Nigeria.

According to Nnaji, the partnership is crucial for improving the lives of underserved populations and strengthening Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem. He emphasized the urgency of innovative partnerships, particularly in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and digital financial inclusion.

Key areas of focus include agricultural innovation using AI to enhance farming practices and optimize food production, energy access through off-grid and renewable energy technologies, and joint research and development in healthcare and education. The partnership aims to identify and scale innovative technologies, driving solutions to meet Nigeria’s national development goals and improve citizens’ quality of life.

USAID’s Power Africa initiative will support electricity access expansion through cleaner, sustainable solutions. Nnaji noted that this collaboration will be instrumental in driving innovative solutions necessary to meet Nigeria’s national development goals.

The move is expected to boost Nigeria’s tech sector, address developmental challenges, and promote sustainable development. With this partnership, Nigeria is poised to leverage technology for transformative growth and development.
