Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has sparked controversy after publicly criticizing the popular phrase “I Am a Chosen” used by members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries.
In a scathing Facebook post, Doyle described the phrase as “nonsensical” and disconnected from Christian doctrine. He argued that the phrase does not mention or imply Jesus Christ, and instead, members’ adoration is directed towards the church’s leader.
Doyle’s remarks come amid growing controversy surrounding viral testimonies from the church, which have been met with skepticism and criticism from various quarters.
“The phrase ‘I am a Chosen’ used by members of this sect should never be connected to the Body of Christ,” Doyle stated. “To infer that this nonsensical phrase is connected to giving glory to the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, is to make a mockery of our faith.”
Doyle’s criticism echoes similar concerns raised by other celebrities, including actor IK Ogbonna, who recently called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to tackle the issue of “fake miracles” in churches. Actress Kemi Lala Akindoju has also criticized the church’s doctrine.
In response to the controversy, CAN has condemned a viral testimony from a congregant claiming an “angel” provided answers during an examination.
