Uzoamaka Aniunoh, who stars as Nikiya Talabi in the film The Weekend, has expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with director Daniel Oriahi. Aniunoh described landing the role as an honor and a dream come true.
The Weekend, directed by Daniel Oriahi, has been officially selected for the BFI London Film Festival. Aniunoh, known for her role as Cynthia in the MTV Shuga series, has also featured in notable projects like the Sundance award-winning film Mami Wata, the Amazon Prime movie With Difficulty Comes Ease, and the Showmax original series Diiche.
Speaking at the premiere of The Weekend on August 30, 2024, Aniunoh shared her excitement about working with Oriahi and Trino Studios. “I said yes to the project because it’s a fantastic story. I loved the people who were going to make the film. Trino Studios and Daniel Oriahi’s collaboration has just been a match made from heaven,” she said.
Aniunoh emphasized her preference for subtle acting, stating, “I lean on the side of subtlety. There’s a place for dramatics, but you need to know the story you are telling and who your character is.”
She concluded by encouraging audiences to watch the movie, adding, “The Weekend is thrilling, enjoyable, and amazing. It will make you think about your ideas about family.”
The Weekend is a psychological thriller that follows Nikiya, an orphaned woman seeking a sense of belonging, as she visits her fiancé’s seemingly perfect family, only to uncover their dark secrets.
