Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, has vowed to make Nigeria proud during her reign. In a heartfelt message, she expressed her gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support throughout the contest.
Adetshina, who holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and South Africa, faced xenophobic abuse in South Africa after being invited to compete for Miss Universe Nigeria. Despite these challenges, she emerged victorious and was warmly received by Nigerians.
During a reception hosted by Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Adetshina shared her excitement about visiting Nigeria for the first time in 20 years. She described Nigerians as hospitable and friendly, recounting her nervousness upon arrival and the warm welcome she received at the airport.
“I wear this crown with so much pride and I will make Nigeria proud,” Adetshina declared. She also expressed her admiration for the resilience of Nigerians abroad and encouraged those with dual citizenship to value their Nigerian heritage.
Dr. Dabiri-Erewa praised Adetshina’s resilience and assured her of continued support from NiDCOM. She emphasized the importance of dual citizens appreciating their Nigerian roots and contributing to the nation’s growth.
