Media personality Toke Makinwa has spoken out against the traditional practice of using tribal marks for identification, labeling it as a form of cruelty towards children who are unable to give their consent.
In a series of posts on her X account, Makinwa shared her thoughts on the matter, sparked by a recent encounter with an influencer who had tribal marks. She expressed admiration for the beauty of people with tribal marks but emphasized her concern lies with the lack of consent involved in marking children for identification purposes.
Makinwa recalled her grandmother’s experience with tribal marks and acknowledged that while the practice may have been widespread in the past, she is grateful it is no longer prevalent today.
Despite facing backlash from some users, Makinwa clarified that her disapproval stems from the absence of consent, not the aesthetic appeal of the marks.
