Canadian songstress Celine Dion is sharing her experience with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. In a recent interview with NBC News, the 56-year-old singer described the condition’s impact on her health, including muscle spasms and limitations on her movement and singing.
Dion likened the muscle spasms to “being strangled,” explaining how they affect her voice and ability to control her body. She also detailed experiencing cramps and even broken ribs due to the severity of the spasms.
“It feels like, if I point my feet, they will stay in (that position),” Dion said, describing how the spasms can lock her muscles in place.
This interview comes after Dion’s initial diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome in 2022. While she initially tried to fight the symptoms, Dion has come to accept the changes in her life and is now focused on managing the condition.
“I’m learning to live with it and manage it, but not to let it define me,” she stated.
