Nigerian pop star Tiwa Savage faced resistance early in her career due to her performance attire, according to a recent interview with BET. Savage said she was prevented from performing at shows and had music videos banned from television because her outfits were considered too revealing.
“It was a cultural issue,” Savage explained. “Even some of my first music videos weren’t played because they were considered indecent. I wasn’t even wearing bikinis!”
Despite the pushback, Savage persisted. “I was stubborn,” she admitted. “My fanbase grew anyway, and the demand for my music became undeniable.”
