Nigerian reality TV star and singer, Whitemoney, has seemingly soured on the prestigious Grammy Awards. The winner of Big Brother Naija season 6, known for his outspoken desire to win a Grammy, has expressed his disillusionment with the American award show.
In a recent interview with content creator Egungun, Whitemoney declared, “The way things are going now, Grammy don cast [The Grammys are messed up].” He went on to state his focus has shifted to the Headies, a popular Nigerian music award ceremony.
“Make we manage Headies [Let’s focus on the Headies],” Whitemoney said. “I’m not sure if I’m still pursuing my desire of winning Grammys. Now I’m pursuing any award that keeps my relevant.”
His frustration stems from what he perceives as the Grammys’ lack of recognition for Nigerian superstars like Davido and Burna Boy. “Because after what Grammy organisers did to our superstars…at the last award ceremony, it’s now looking like they are using Nigeria for publicity stunt,” he expressed.
Despite his disenchantment, Whitemoney left the door open for a potential future Grammy win. “But never say never,” he conceded. “My style of music is unique. If it takes me to the Grammys, no wahala [no problem].”
