Naira abuse: Court grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m bail

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has granted socialite, Pascal Okechukwu popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest ₦10 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Cubana Chief Priest for naira abuse before Justice Kehinde Ogundare, before whom he was arraigned on Wednesday.

According to the EFCC, the socialite abused the naira at a social event on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, an act said to be contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The celebrity barman pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges bordering on tampering and abusing the naira preferred against him.

After taking the defendant’s plea, the court granted him bail in the sum of ₦10 million with two responsible sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed with the federal or state government and not less than grade level 16.

The sureties are also to have landed property and the document must be verified by the court.

Cubana Chief Priest is also to submit his travel passport to the custody of the court.

The court held that the bail conditions must be perfected within seven days but in the meantime he was released to his lawyer who must give an undertaken to produce him later.

Failure to do so, he will be remanded in a correctional facility.
