The family of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has announced plans for his burial.
Mr Ibu passed away earlier this year after battling an undisclosed illness that necessitated the amputation of his leg.
In a statement released by his brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, the family expressed their desire to honor Mr Ibu’s legacy “of love, laughter and liveliness.” The statement went on to invite the public to participate in a week-long celebration of the actor’s life.
The festivities will commence on Tuesday, June 25th with a “high profiled novelty match.” This will be followed by “Mr Ibu’s Night” on Wednesday, June 26th, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment. A Christian Wake will be held on June 27th at Mr Ibu’s compound, leading into the funeral service on June 28th.
The week-long commemoration will conclude with a Church Thanksgiving service on Sunday, June 30th, for family, friends, and well-wishers.
Mr Ibu’s burial will take place on June 28th in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The family statement described the burial as a way to “lay to rest our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and in-law.”
