Pro-democracy activist and 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has mocked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for “gleefully” announcing the jailing of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky.
The Herald can report that EFCC announced Bobrisk’s jailing in a statement published on its Facebook page on Friday, April 12.
The anti-graft commission said Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday sentenced the crossdresser to six months imprisonment without an option of fine over mutilation of naira notes.
Reacting to the development in an X post, Sowore said that instead of celebrating Bobrisky’s jailing, the EFCC should put more effort into apprehending and prosecuting the “real people destroying the economy”.
“The @officialEFCC is gleefully announcing that Bobrisky has been jailed for six months without an option of a fine for “mutilating” the Nigerian currency, the Naira.
“The real people destroying the economy, like former President @MBuhari, his former Attorney General, Malami, his former personal secretary Tunde Sabiu, and even the former @cenbank
governor, @GodwinIEmefiele, are yet to be jailed for the massive economic damage they did to ruin Nigeria.
“The energy put into prosecuting and jailing a crossdresser, Bobrisky, shows his real offense could not have been spraying of Naira at a party.
“Let’s see how @officialEFCC handles cases involving real financial criminals a long list-some being prosecuted since 2007-who destroyed the naira in the near future,” Sowore said.
