Renowned RnB sensation, Usher Raymond, recently disclosed his plunge into the vibrant world of Afrobeats with collaborations featuring Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Pheelz in his latest album, ‘Homecoming.’

Usher, who has received numerous accolades for his musical prowess, shared insights into his collaboration choices during an interview with Apple Music. He expressed his enthusiasm for incorporating African and specifically Nigerian culture into his musical repertoire, citing the popularity of Afrobeats as a driving force behind his decision.

I am all about collaboration and bringing African, you know, Nigerian culture to my own world. Their music is really popular now. I wanted to be part of Afrobeats, that’s why I went to Africa to make this album,” Usher explained.

The lead track, ‘Ruin,’ features Pheelz, who played a pivotal role in connecting Usher with Burna Boy for the title track, ‘Homecoming.’ Usher acknowledged the significance of Burna Boy’s contribution, stating, “I just felt that this song would only be lifted better if he was part of it.”

Pheelz, who contributed to ‘Ruins,’ shared his excitement about collaborating with Usher, emphasizing how Usher had been his role model growing up in Nigeria. “I would listen to Usher almost every day growing up. I literally dived into his albums and learned from him. And to be able to write, produce, and teach him in a way, it shows me how far the Nigerian music has gone. It shows me how far dreams can go as well,” Pheelz expressed in an interview with Apple Music.
