EXPOSED! How Hoodlums Disrupted Re-Run Election In Enugu South

2 Min Read

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed on Wednesday that some hoodlums disrupted the re-run election in Enugu South 1 State Constituency.

According to the Commission, the hoodlums resisted election officials and voters from having the re-run election, which was ordered by the court.

The election body made this known in a statement released on its official X account on Wednesday.

In the statement, the Commission explained that, though the election was disrupted, no lives were lost in the act.

Also, INEC noted that election materials were destroyed and voters were prevented from casting their votes by the hoodlums.

“A report from our Enugu State office indicates that hoodlums have disrupted the court-ordered re-run election in the Enugu South 1 State Constituency.

“Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but election materials were destroyed, and voters were obstructed from casting their votes. Our officials have been safely evacuated with assistance from security agencies,” the statement reads.

INEC also revealed that, unlike what happened in the re-run election in Enugu South 1, “the supplementary election in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State is unfolding peacefully across three local government areas.”

The Herald learned that Enugu South 1 was one of the areas where the INEC suspended re-run elections on February 3, 2024, due to violence and a lack of compliance with electoral guidelines.

During the last rerun, there had also been reports of attacks by hoodlums and hijacking of electoral materials by thugs, which eventually led to the cancellation of the rerun election.
