The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Screening Committee for the Edo State Governorship Election, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, have assured aspirants that the screening process will be transparent.
He stated this while speaking to aspirants at the commencement of the screening exercise in Abuja on Monday.
He stated that, as a product and beneficiary of a transparent and fair process, he will ensure that the screening process is fair and that a level playing field is provided for each aspirant to test their popularity.
He also assured them that the party will provide all the support needed to ensure that the PDP retains Edo State.
Muftwang, however, noted that at the end of the day, only one person would emerge as the flag bearer of the party in the governorship election, adding that God has already decided who that person is and the screening is just to follow due process.
“He has already determined. But we as humans don’t yet know, and that is why these processes are ongoing. We appreciate the concerns that you have expressed. By putting in place a level playing field, we are going to be strong advocates of that,” he said.
Speaking after the screening, one of the aspirants, Osaro Onaiwu, stated that the party should have an effective reward system in place to encourage members who have kept faith in it.
He noted that he is the founding DG of the PDP Governor’s Forum, adding that winning in the state should be a priority for the party.
