Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has said he is confident of securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket, likening himself to a “ripe mango” pelted with stones due to his perceived popularity.
Shaibu made his remarks during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday.
He said, “I am going to get the ticket of the PDP. I am very confident. I am confident because I am a candidate to beat. That is why they are attacking me. It is only a mango tree that has ripe fruits that is being thrown stone at. I am that tree. I have ripe fruits that is why they are throwing stones at me.”
He added, “I am the one aspirant that people can see, feel and touch. I am one aspirant that knows what the people need and whom they are yearning to have. I have lived with them, understand their thinking and know what they want.
“I am not going to be a governor that would throw things at people that they don’t need. I understand them and I know what they need. In terms of leadership assessment, I know what every zone needs for survival and for poverty to remain history in our state.”
