Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, known in the music industry as Spyro, bared his soul in a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, where he candidly shared the pain he experienced seeing his junior colleagues, Fireboy DML and Oxlade, rise to stardom before him.

Recalling his journey in the music industry, Spyro revealed that he invested in promoting his music on prominent platforms like NotJustOk, anticipating that such exposure would propel his career. However, when Fireboy DML and Oxlade achieved breakthroughs before him, Spyro admitted feeling a deep sense of frustration and questioning God about his delayed success.

In his own words, Spyro shared, “I paid for my song to be on NotJustOk, which was a big platform back then. Once you hear their voice tag on a song, the song don blow. So, I thought that [I would blow]. So when Fireboy come blow, I was like, ‘Eh! Fireboy blow before me? God, me I still dey…’ And all those times, God was teaching me that it’s not about my talent but by his grace.”

Spyro went on to express his sentiments about Oxlade, who he had actively supported, even featuring him in a show in 2018 alongside Davido and Mayorkun. Despite his efforts, Spyro found himself facing the challenge of seeing Oxlade achieve fame before him.

Na Oxlade and Fireboy blow na im pain me pass. No be say pain but it triggered me. I am happy that they blew at the point they blew, but these are people that I was in the industry before them. I was like, ‘God, what is going on?’ So, it was so painful for me. It was frustrating. I would cry. I would struggle with God.
