Nigerian singer and rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, recently revealed that his career-changing moment came with the 2017 collaborative song “My Body” featuring Olamide. In a candid interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Zlatan shared the significance of Olamide’s contribution to the track, emphasizing how it marked a turning point in his musical journey.
Zlatan recounted the persistence it took to secure Olamide’s collaboration, revealing that he consistently reached out to the YBNL boss through social media direct messages (DMs). Despite facing initial disappointments, Zlatan’s determination eventually paid off, leading to a collaboration that would alter the course of his career.
In the interview, Zlatan expressed the transformative impact of Olamide providing him with a verse, describing it as “life-changing.” He shared insights into the process, stating, “Olamide giving me a verse at that time was life-changing for me. Zlatan detailed how he had two failed attempts at securing Olamide’s collaboration before finally meeting him in person. Expecting a rap song, Zlatan was surprised when Olamide introduced an Afrobeats track, “My Body.” The decision to switch genres was a strategic move by Olamide, recognizing the potential for an instant breakthrough.
“He did that because he knew it was what would make me an instant star. I recorded my verse, and that was how my story changed,” Zlatan explained, reflecting on the pivotal moment that marked a shift in his career trajectory.
The collaboration with Olamide propelled Zlatan into the spotlight, and “My Body” became a hit, solidifying his position in the Nigerian music scene.
