Killings: Plateau governor tells villagers to defend themselves

“We must stay united to defend our communities,” the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged residents in the wake of the recent killings that claimed over 100 lives.

The governor said in a Tuesday statement that the state celebrated Christmas with a heavy heart.

According to him, “unprovoked attacks were unleashed on several of our communities.

“Most of the communities attacked in Barkin Ladi share Borders with Bokkos Local Government.

“We have not less than 17 communities that were completely touched and brought down by these bandits and criminals.”

No fewer than 162 lives have been reported killed in the attacks.

“It has been a very terrifying Christmas for us on the Plateau,” the governor lamented.

Mutfwang stated that this particular set of attacks was well-coordinated with heavy weapons.

He urged security agencies to do their work to be able to identify the sponsors of these attacks.

“We will push them to be able to unravel all those responsible for these attacks.

“Until we cut off the supply in terms of sponsorship, we may never be able to see the end of this,” he said.

Mutfwang said he would meet with the president to brief him about the killings.

“I will meet with the president today and give him accurate reports. The Army Headquarters has responded. The IG has also responded and more reinforcements are being sent.

“I urge everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities for prompt security response.

“We must stay united to defend our communities. Plateau is the home of Peace and Tourism and by God’s grace it will remain so,” he said.
